After two days eating and doing nothing, i felt the need to go outside! Just walking and burn the extra calories. But what options do we have? The Posbank is closed so that was not an option. Do not want to go shopping. I can do that enough. I was going through my reviews and noticed that I missed the pictures from the open air museum in Arnhem. I have been there several times but never took my camera with me. On msn I asked jos what he was going to do that third “Christmas day”. Nothing. Therefore we asked Jos to join us to the open air museum, because he has never been there before. He visited our house at 11 ‘o clock in the morning, and at 11.30 we went to the museum. It is not very far from our house. Just 15 minutes by car. What we already heard that it would be busy, and it was. But the park is so very big, you do not notice that it is that crowded. In the winter High season they have special things for the visitors. Like a skating rink, brazier (vuurpot), lights along the whole walking area. Several kinds of old handicrafts, sweets to buy and I was looking out for my glass of Gluhwein. I have seen and smelt it, but I did not have a drink!!! Poor me! The area was extra nice this time, because the open air museum is located at a higher level than Arnhem is, so the snow stayed longer there.

After entering the parc you take the route on your left hand. There you see several very old houses. When you keep walking in that direction you will pass the tram station and the Castle farm (kasteel boerderij). Walking further you will pass two beautiful mills. There you can cross the yellow bridge and you are in another part of Holland, The Zaanse schans. These are typical houses with green wooden fronts. In this small street you can find a grocery shop, where they sell all kinds of old fashioned candy and herbs and typical Dutch things. A bit further away on your right hand there is the baker's shop. You can not pass that one without buying anything. On the square there is another typical Dutch poffertjes' stall. And yes we have been eating there, and had something warm to drink.

After a short rest and warming our cold feet, we could start to walk again. Not such a long walk please! We will take the tram, but a lot of people thought so. Waiting for the tram. We left the tram at the second stop. There is a kind of storehouse with all kinds of old stuff you had in your house for years agooooo! Nice to see what you still recognize. And walking again, passing a church which was filled with people, because a choir started to sing. I was warming my cold feet at the fire outside. Next stop was the restaurant, no I did not get my Gluhwein. They just visited the Toilets!! In the opposite of the restaurant is a playground for children. When you visit this parc in the summer you may find mandy playing there. They also have a maze. They made it from hornbeam. So now you can see trough a bit, but in the summer it is not possible. Leaving this area and walking along the garden with herbs. This part is dull now, of course it is winter. But in the summer it is lovely to see and smell. Following this road and turn left you will reach the depot of the tram, (build in the style of Amsterdamse school) and on the other side the train station and the distributor Van Gend & Loos. (like UPS). At this point you see the Zaanse Schans again.

Of course it is also very nice in the summer!

In this parc you can really walk for hours, there is so much to see, and it is such an nice area to walk in. 5 hours are really too short.
