Richmond Bridge, build by two convicts
Richmond: Not much to see in this town, but it's claim to fame is an impressive one. they have the first bridge built in australia, and it was made by convicts. when the bridge was completed two convicts started decorating the outside of the bridge, when they finished the local government head was so pleased that they were pardoned and set free, but later it was found out the convicts carvings into the bridge were a mocking representation of the goverment person who pardoned them. the town only has a couple hundred people but the town feels like there are only about 20 people live there. they have a great bakery there, though i am learning quickly meat pies are a staple of tassie small towns (lucky me cause they are amazing!) and a cool little antique shop but other then that it is a nice place to visit but i wouldnt want to live there.

Port Arthur: Spent 3 hours here, the first hour was entertaining the rest was not. though i am not sure if that is because of back home all we have for history is pioneer times and so this is the same kinda thing but with a convict theme, or if the history is not that interesting or if because it feels so fake and touristy. i mean they turned the insane asylum into a fucking cafe and the detention centre into a museum... wtf...

my favourite part of the time spent there was this card game thing. you are assigned a card (from a deck of playing cards, mine was the 10 of hearts) then you had to wonder around this section with a bunch of props and plastic figures each one representing a prisoner to find your own. the life story is printed on the front of these figures. the rest of it was not that interesting to me the guided tour which was about 40 mins ( about 15 of which were entertaining and informative), the boat tour lasts about 20 mins and just takes you around the harbour is a complete rip off and and unless you are going to the isle of the dead or the juvenile detention centre island I suggest you not waste your money. i did not go to either of these island as it was not included in our tour so i am not sure how they are.
