finally arrived late into melbourne, with no plan other then i had to get out of sydney as quickly as possible as the cost of staying there was fastly increasing to 40$ a night for a hostel. i dont know why but i did not have the foresight to book a hostel for melbourne or find out where one is in melbourne, or even as far as to effectively get into town from the airport. it cost around 16 dollars and 20 to 30 minutes to take the bus from the airport in melbourne to the city, it drops you off in this massive train station.

of course i didnt ask for directions and just started wondering around and after about an hour and a half of wondering around town i found my way to a hostel, no less the YHA Melbourne central (and if you didnt know located apparently right next to the massive rail station) but they were full, along with all the YHAs in town, so i walked next door and they were full too, things were not looking good at 8 at night fresh off the plane and tired from walking for an hour and a half with my full pack. lucky i found a nomad's(seems like YHAs big rival) who were full but the receptionist was nice enough to help me find a place that still had space. i stayed in the nomad right by Queen victoria market.

i dont know about anyone else but YHA and nomads shouldnt even be in competition together as they are so bewilderingly different. YHA seems to cater more to people looking for a cheap version of a hotel and an older segement of the backpacker community, whereas Nomads seems to have much more of a social life, and caters itself towards the 19-27 crowd, a good and bad thing depending on where you are comming from. it was a very intimidating experience after staying 4 days in sydney central YHA. though i managed to get myself into a pool tourney with about 20 people and made it to the quarter finals, so i had a ton of friends my 2nd day there.
