When all the snow arrived in late December, I wanted to hibernate. It did not work, I wake up every morning. The temperature is sinking every day. On Friday it was -22°C/-9°F so I decided to spend the weekend inside. Then today I remembered that I had promised TB friend "chokk" photos of the frozen Oslo fjord. I got dressed, don´t know how many layers of cloths I had on, but I did survive the -16°C/4°F. The sun was shinning so I must admit that it was beautiful. I went down to the fjord and the beach. The result are the photos in this blog.
I was a bit disappointed. Last week the fjord was all frozen. The ferry across the fjord was cancelled due to the ice. A 15 minutes ferry ride across the fjord turned into over an hour bus ride for those commuting. Today most of the fjord was open. Even though they warned people from walking on the ice, both on the radio and the television, three people went through it and had to be rescued. Police have used helicopters today to scare people off the ice. Salt water does not freeze like fresh water. Not until the ice is 15 cm/6 inches thick is it safe to walk on. It´s not even close to that now.
