The bus ride to the Ice Hotel only took about 15-20 minutes. There was an employee of the Ice Hotel on the bus who gave us a little background on the hotel, as well as check in information as we drove there. If you are staying in an ice room, there is a separate reception building for checking in. Since we are staying in a warm room tonight, we go to the main reception building to check in. This is also where the activities desk is located, as well as a lounge/bar.
Once we arrived and got our bag, we made our way to check in. The first thing we saw just at the bottom of the hill was the entrance to the Ice Hotel itself!!! What a sight!! The front door was lit up in a soft blue light which really stood out against the dark sky behind it. Just to the left before you get to the Ice Hotel was a nice gift shop where you could buy everything from clothing and jewelry to a deck of cards and other souvenirs.
After checking in, we made the short walk to our warm room. Our room is one of four in a small building. There are a number of buildings like this through out the property, some of which hold only two rooms, but none have more than four rooms per building. Our room was very nice, nicer than I expected with a large bed and a very nice bathroom!
Now it’s time to check this place out. We first head our way back to the Ice Hotel and checked out the inside and all the art rooms. If you are staying here, you are able to just walk around and look at all the different rooms…up until 6:00pm. After six, you need a room key to enter. The Ice bar is also located just off the “lobby” of the Ice Hotel, but we’ll check that out later. There is no way to describe all the great ice art in the different rooms. I took pictures of almost all of them, but even the pictures don’t do them justice! It’s just incredible!!!
Next we checked out the gift shop for a bit, and then headed back to the main reception lobby to check on our activities we had set up for tomorrow.
We were starting to get hungry, and it was now close to 6:00, so we made our way to the restaurant across the street to get dinner. We were both very surprised at how nice this restaurant was, definitely not what I was expecting! Even though it looked very fancy, you didn’t need to be dressed up to be here.
This will also be the restaurant we have lunch and our free breakfast.
After a great dinner, we walked around a little more; it’s snowing lightly and -16C now. We then called it a night and relaxed in our room. Tomorrow afternoon we go dog sledding, and then a night time snowmobile adventure to hopefully see the Northern Lights…and of course check into our ice room!
