Lena ordering some food
Finally, we arrived at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, got our bag, and headed to the train counter to check the schedule. There is no one there this time of night, but the ticket machines are right there so that is where you purchase your train tickets from. Looks like we are going to be here a while because the next train to Gävle is at 12:57am; that’s about 2.5 hours from now! Lucky for us, there was one restaurant still open, and that was McDonalds which closes at 11:00pm. We quickly made our way upstairs and ordered some food. I normally do not eat at McDonalds, or most other fast food places, but you make due with what is available.
I haven’t been to a McDonalds in a few years, so this was a real treat. They even have donuts here, which are much different than the donuts back in the States. It’s hard to explain, but they are very good!!
After we ate, we walked to the other end of the terminal to see where we needed to be when we come back in a few days to leave for home. At this time of night…or morning, there is nothing open and almost no one here except for a few people sleeping waiting for early flights. We found some computers you can pay to use for internet access, so we paid for an hour, check email and played online. As the time drew near to get on the train, we made our way back to the entrance to enter the train platform, took the long escalator ride below ground and waited about 15 minutes for our train to arrive. Once on board, the train ride to Gävle takes about 1.5 hours, which will get us there around 2:30am. Hopefully we will find a cab at that hour or we’ll have to walk to Lena’s brother’s house which is on the other side of town. I’m not ready for a 45 minute walk, I’m tired and it will be cold!!!
