Sunday 11th we planned to stay in bed the best part of the morning to recover from the flight and then to take it easy and have a stroll through Vietnam's capital.
How different can things in life go! We were rudely waken early in the morning by the hotel staff telling us that our van to Halong Bay was about to arrive in front of our hotel. But... we were supposed to go to Halong Bay on Monday! Weather predictions we very negative later on Monday, so they changed the plan, so that we could be able to enjoy the bay area. Grabbing some things in our bags and picking some things to have a bit of breakfast, we got into the van which patiently had been waiting for us.
After leaving Hanoi we could enjoy our first views of the Northern Vietnam countryside and after some hours we arrived at the tourist wharf, where many junks were waiting for their loads (tourists).
The boat sailed out of the harbour and was soon in the unique bay away from all other boats and surrounded by many small high rock islands. How beautiful earth can be! After settling in our big cabin with balcony, it was time for lunch with fresh sea food. Very tastefull. While the junk found its way along the islands we relaxed on deck to admire the view, the drinks and the company. After some hours we went ashore on an island, where we visited a big grotto. In the evening the junk sought shelter in a bay, where we spent the night on the ship.
