İzmit Gulf...usually plain....no waves...

Izmit is located in the east of istanbul , one hour driving away...one of the biggest industrial cities of turkey..Beside this , there are also historical sites to see and it is an university city which has more 50000 students...I studied there during the university years, i tried to learn and search about the city as much as i can when i was living there...

The city had a big tragedy of the earthquake happened in 1999 and about 19000 people died..When i moved to the city , it was 2002 but i could still feel the sorrow of the people died after the earthquake,,,you can still see the aparments or buildings which were ruined by the earthquake...i remember my first day there,,I arrived in the bus terminal and the hostel where i was going to stay ,was 10 mins away from the terminal so i decided to walk with my luggage.

..it was september and the weather was little bit chilly,,,so when i took the direction to the hostel , i saw many container houses , people were trying to get something to burn and some kind of fire place and get warmer in early morning....so my adventure in this city started with this image... of course next 5 years of my living there the life has changed alot there,,,and still the city improving itself....

The city has a history till goes back to the Roman  empire and earlier ages....as far as i remember the city were called Nicomedia during that ages...there are still some ruins can be seen remained from the roman and byzantium empire...however the most historical buildings still can be seen in one piece after the earthquake, remained from selcuk turks and the ottoman empire.

Demiryolu Caddesi( Railway Street)it called Railway Street, because Railway used to pass between those oak trees in the middle of the cities..but unfortunately I havent seen it...I saw it just on photos..
..such as Pertev Pasa mosque and the fountain...Gazi Pasa mosque or the izmir clock tower..

There are two main pedestrain avenues where people walk, shop or having something to eat or drink....Fethiye Caddesi and Demiryolu Caddesi...you should take a walk on both avenue, especially Demiryolu is nice to walk under big oak trees....You can also go to the seaside, there are many cafes in marina and is a beautiful place to take photos especially during the sunsets...

The best time i guess to visit spring and summer, the weather usually gloomy and rainy...rain like you can walk 2 hours but dont get wet...crazy there...the gulf of izmit during the gloomy weather of course it gets grey colour and flat...no wave.... to get izmit from istanbul you can take buses or trains...the train has a better view, you can even stop in Hereke which is famous with its carpet and rugs aroud the world...it is a beautiful small town by the gulf of izmit...the ones who visit istanbul in turkey ,they can think about izmit to visit as a local place for a daily trip...
