Driving towards Luxor with sleep in our eyes

One of the trips we had planned for our stay in El Gouna was to visit the city of Luxor some 400 km south west of the beaches of El Gouna.
On the way to Luxor we left very early; we started at 5 am in the morning since many of the fellow bus riders were on a one day trip driving back the same day. We on the other hand had decided to stay in Luxor for the night at the Club Med in downtown Luxor.
One thing that appears very clear while driving is that the road conditions are quite okay but what is interrupting are the numerous gates that block the roads constantly.
The trip feels with no doubt very long because there is not much to see during the most of the time. Leaving El Gouna you fairly fast enter the stony mountains, which only give you some nice views, but then you have to appreciate rock formations to get the buzz.
Otherwise you have to wait a couple of hours until the bus reach the outskirts of the Nile where thing starts to get green and habituated. The sights get to be interesting and you are getting close to the real Egyptian life of the countryside even though you are passing by with 100 k/h
Entering Luxor gives you a little taste of what wonders which are awaiting you. You start to get some taste of it when you drive along the Nile and the Temple of Luxor.
A long ride no doubt; but remember to bring water, a book or some music and again don't expect much scenery.
