St. Peter's Square and then on to the Celebrity Solstice

We didn't plan to, but since we had a few hours before our driver was picking us up to take us to port, we walked all the way to St. Peter's Square along the Tiber River. It was a beautiful walk and we took tons of pictures. When we returned to the hotel, we grabbed a lovely light lunch at the cafe next door (a delicious sandwich on olive bread and a crisp, fresh salad with a nice glass of viognier). When we were done, our driver was waiting for us (perfect timing) and we took a pleasant drive to port.
When we arrived to port, the embarkation process to the Celebrity Solstice was amazingly well-organized. In a short while we were in our comfortable room and sipping mimosas on the balcony. I hadn't taken a cruise since I graduated from law school (a looong time ago) and I'm amazed at how things have improved! The room was nicely designed, the bathroom was relatively spacious and the sheets were comfortable.
We had dinner in the Epernay dining room - and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and selection of the food and the service. I had crab louis on avocado (good!), lobster bisque (too tomato-ey), spaghetti carbonara (not authentic, but ok) and vanilla ice cream. The best find of the evening was the pinot noir - absolutely delicious. It was Nickel & Nickel Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley - so good. I have to get some when I get back to CA.
