Crossing the IJ

Living at the borders of Amsterdam Noord (the northern part of the city) we need to cross the water called IJ when we want to go downtown.
Today the reason to go downtown was that husband wanted to buy a new guitar, he is widening his musical skills by playing classical tunes but on his western it takes too much of his fingers. He needed a simple classical guitar (with nylon strings) which eases practising the technique. So we hopped on the motorbike to the ferry, cross the IJ, and went right at the oldest part of town to the music store.
This week is Sail Amsterdam, a large maritime manifestation, held every five years; so we had a great opportunity to look at the busy sailing by all kind of vessels.
Usually the ferries are on a strict schedule but not these days. They need to move right through the line of boats, but since they are ferries they got right of way.
It was very hectic on the water, and it is amazing the ferries as well as the professional sailing (transport of goods) is going on (more or less) as usual.
