Dutch Harbor to Akutan, Alaska

Well finally we got a ride. The weather never cleared enough to take the sea plane so after the German VIP buyers flew in to Dutch on the company jet, management had to find a way to get them to Akutan. Finally they sent the Golden Dawn, a multimillion dollar 150 foot fishing boat that was owned by the company. The Dawn's main catch was pollock which is a real white fish and is used for almost everything including imitation crab. I was really happy with this decision. I had flown in a seaplane in the Florida Keys but had never been on a really professional fishing boat. This boat could hold as much as 700,000 pounds of pollock and the captain said during the season, they caught that many a couple times a week. WOW!
The ride was pretty comfortable, the mate had cooked some really nice snacks for the VIPs so I helped myself too! The people from Germany were really nice and friendly and treated us mortals well.
I made all the rounds, got the deck guys to take me around the deck and show me the nets and the electronic transducer that tells the ship when the net is full and I never did understand all of that but I guess it works because he said it did. But How? Oh well! I learned a lot about nets and the dragging doors and so much stuff I never knew before or after!
I went up on the bridge and talked with the captain for a while and tried to learned as much as I could without showing that I was a complete fool! Guess I succeeded because they did not throw me overboard.
