I woke up this morning feeling good finally, and sad it was going to be my last day hiking. The sun was just coming over the mountains as I headed outside. It looked amazing! As someone put it, it looked straight out of middle-earth haha. Today I was hoping would be easy since it was just down the valley, but I was wrong. It wasn't down the valley, it was along the side of it. This meant a lot of up and down! It started off through the bottom of the valley, then went upwards along the side. In the bottom, I went through a heard of cows. This was number 1 of 2 for the day.
As I went up towards L'Arp Vieille Inferiore, I met back up with the couple from Straussburg that I had met at Refuge de la Balme. They were going on past Courmayeur and were quicker than me.
There were a lot of ski resorts in this area which detracted from the views. They took out a lot of trees that would have been nice to see. Once I got to Checrouit, the trail dropped of a cliff almost literally. I almost took the "burrow route" because the map was confusing, but I took the right way down into Courmayeur, almost a mile below. The trail was really, really steep, dusty, and hot. It was not a good way to end the lovely hike I had had, but nevertheless, it was the end of the hike. 4 days, 40 miles, a few thousand foot climb and descent. Totally worth the trip!
