I made it to Singapore about two days ago...it was a really long series of flights-first to LA, then a stop to refuel in Taipei (where Allan is from), then on to Hong Kong where we almost missed our flight to Singapore, but they held the plane and we made it on time for our orientation to the National University of Singapore (where we are taking our classes.) The next morning we had to wake up early (which was not difficult considering we all had jet lag) and go to the immigratin office to get our student visa. Using the Singapore bus and MRT (like DART or MARTA) we found it and had time to explore the river walk area before having to return for our first class. We saw some beautiful cathedrals, buildings, and artwork. We ate lunch at a Japanese pasta place which was actually pretty good. Then we had to go to class for two hours! Our fist class is the History of Modern Asia and it is taught by a Georgia Tech professor. It is actually pretty interesting...and it definitely helps that we are experiencing the culture while learing about it! I don't know what I ate for dinner last night, and that bothers me a little. However, it wasn't that bad, and I didn't die, and I think that I have to get used to that. Haha. Tonight we are planning on going on a night safari so I will let y'all know how that goes! I miss everyone and hope that everything is going well back home!
