Yesterday a group of us were able to talk to our history professor for a long time and we found out that he lived in Shanghai while Mao was in power (which is the era we were learning about). He had 7 brothers and sisters and remembers the famine because they all had to eat sweet potatoes since rice was a luxury but they couldn't ever eat enough to be full because if they did that would mean that one of their siblings would be hungry.
I was also able to attend a "Star Party" which was put on by the Astronomy Club right outside of our dooms. I know, something only a Tech student would be excited about! It was really awesome because they had these really amazing telescopes. The club thought that we were pretty dumb for a while because none of us knew about the Southern Cross...then we realized that its because we use the North Star. You can't see the North Star here!!! Most of the stars I see at night I have never seen before. That just blows my mind! My favorite thing that I saw was called the Jewel Box. It was a cluster of about six stars of all different colors which were visible through the telescope.
Tomorrow we get to go on our first field trip to a museum called the "Images of Singapore!" I'm excited! :-)
