In the Redwoods

We arrived in New Zealand at about 9pm on 14th December after a 4 hour flight that left on the 13th at 5pm!!!!!! (YES!! We're time travellers! I feel like Marty McFly!) We got on a bus at the airport into Auckland city centre where we were greeted by a local lady throwing her guts up in the bus stop! We found a hostel for the night in Auckland and the following morning got on the coach to Rotorua (there was actually no toilet!).  The journey took 4 hours (so only small sips!) with a stop at Hamilton along the way (yessss, sweet relief!).

We arrived in Rotorua at lunch time and found our hostel which turned out to be a winner.

A couple of goons!
As we checked in the owners expressed their shock at the length we were staying (which is logical with Han's family either living here or coming to visit!) as most backpackers only pass through, but they were very welcoming.

We've been here a week now and done a lot of exploring aroung the town and shops (Hannah still can't get to grips with the linear layout of the streets!)!!We've had dinner with Phil and Debbie twice (Han's uncle and wife for those that don't know) and had a go in their hot tub whilst checking out the thousands of stars you can see on a new zealand night (orions belt is upside down!!!!) not to mention the awesome view of lake rotorua from their hillside house!

We have visited Kuirau Park which is alive with steaming lakes and bubbling mud pools which is the reason it stinks like jim's backside here! (It's brilliant no-one can ever tell its me! Whenever I drop one they don't bat an eyelid!) And we have also been to Government Gardens where the gate at the entrance is shaped like the royal crown :) We made a trip to the market on the lakefront too, which is similar to a carboot sale at home, minus the cars!

Foodwise, we have been to McDonalds which doesn't yet have McFlurrys or sauces other than tomato! We went for a curry where Phil recommended we ask for the meals Indian hot as opposed to Kiwi hot (which is like butter chicken).

They have fun cadburys chocs here too, and we have sampled a delicious rocky road bar :D mmmmmmmmmmm!!

Thats it so far, we'll update you in a week or so now we've found somewhere that will actually load our blog!!

Lots of love to you all and MERRY CHRISTMAS :D

Hi you two! sounds great other than the smell, (can't imagine anything that could possibly smell worse than James' backside!)are you sure it wasn't 'one he did earlier'? I just wonder why that puffer fish didn't want to puff!!!!! It is really cold and icy here so you are lucky to be in the sun. Missing you soooo much but glad you are having such a good time. Love you loads and loads, have a great Christmas and PUT SOME PHOTOS on your blog. xxxxxxxx
