i was circling the area and it was so warm! i was wearing my winter jacket but its not that "cold" in venice as it was in düsseldorf. i was tired dragging my backpack, so finally i asked someone - first i asked in italian and then asked him if he can speak english hahahaha - the guy said to me to cross the new bridge and just go straight because the central station is there, pass the huge church - in no time, i found myself in sta. luzia train station - went to the ticket counter and bought tickets to ljubljana for me and byiang!
now - the challenge comes! finding the way from sta. luzia to san polo district of venezia! to my hostel - locanda poste vecie!
as i got out of the train station, i looked all over the place and still mesmerised - i asked 2 youngsters in the stairs where the streats leading to rialto are, they said to me, just cross the bridge in fron of sta.
i was sweating so hard because it was so hot! for my standards anyway - then i met an old woman who was accompanied by a younger girl and i politely asked the signora and the girl the directions to rialto, they were so nice - but still in the end i took the wrong direction! arrrghhhhhhhhh - but i know i was close to the hostel because the house numbers are already on 1400s and my hostel is number 1612! it was just so frustrating and looking again at my map - i dont know why but it wasnt cooperative! lol - then i met on the street a friendly looking woman and i asked her - she helped me so much - she said that i am in the rio terra which is not far from pal abrizzi! good good! i really thanked her - but i was on adrenaline and i kept talking to her! lol then we said ciao, and with high hopes i followed her directions - to campo san polo! when i was there i know its easy to find the hostel! i kept circling the streets! looking for the hostel but its really weaird instead of the house numbers increasing above 1400s its slowly declining to 1000-900! whattafuck?!!! i kept walking and wlaking passing a bridge that said by the map and google map but i kept going back to calle del cavalli! i paused in the middle of campo san polo and out of breath and smoked a cigarette!
situation 3 and the best of the venezians!
circling around san polo for almost 1 hour and 1 hour getting lost in venice - so that makes 2 hours of just finding that damn hostel! and i was dissapointed - a bit because the light is slowly fading *groaaaannsss* i wouldnt be able to see venice in the last remaining daylight before i even checked in to the hostel! i was in this place full of activity - there were carpenters in the area, it might be better to ask them because they might know the address! it was so hard to communicate with the language barrier!!! but the good thing was - i know what is left and right, straight ahead, streets in italian! hahahaha sometimes, i love myself - because i can pick up latin languages easily coz i learned spanish and german is close to latin! and i worked with italian kids in düsseldorf! waahahahaha - but although te language thing works - i still couldnt find the hostel - it was nearing 3 hours and i slumped on the street and smoked and told myself to relax.
the direction to campo de la beccarie was so easy! piece of cake! i passed a familiar building thats near to the hostel and voila! found the small alley leading to it!!!! i smoked outside before getting in - then after i was finished i rang the bell - and then at the reception a bubbly middle aged guy gretted me .
i went down and left the key to him so that the other guy can check-in later while i roamed venice, light was definitely fading but luckily enough to take a few shots! i was just in the rialto passed the fish market then headed back because i was so hungry and tired for the day - i remembered i passed a chinese restaurant just down below the hostel - cinese i said because the waiter and the people inside are well - chinese! lol hahaha when i went inside i was surprised! because they served italian! italian cuisine prepared by chinese?!! why not?! so i ordered pasta funghi - and you know me i am picky with food - but it tasted so good!!!!
after my dinner - went back to the hostel and showered with really hot water - after that - my roomate came! giovanni from london - he has italian name but hes well - british! lol we agreed to look around venice at night - he just came from florence and was teaching piano there - and then went to venezia.
giovanni and me had fun laughing out and getting lost in venice - i didnt used that crappy map we just followed the signs and naturally we ended up in dead ends hahahaha - after our long and tiring walk around venice - we decided to have a drink! it was weird because there arent any bars in venice! we found one - harry's but they dont serve beer only wine and coktails thats shoots up to more than 100 euros! are you kidding me?! lol so we walked and walked until we found a plaza were lots of people were gathered outside and i had to laugh because i told him that we search for almost an hour for some bars and "nightlife" in venice and it was just a walking distance from or hostel lol! hahahaha well it wasnt exactly a nightlife but its where people our age go :P wahahaha giovannie ordered corona and me becks and we sat outside - beside us were 3 women - one was a grand old dame - a true signora and the 2 were giovanni's age hahahaha.
we had fun talking! i love it! giovanni was so impressed by my language skills and i told him that i am impressed with his piano skills wahahahaha after our hat its time to go home as it was very cold and i said arrividercci to the signora and the girls and we went back to the hostel! was still early about 9pm but it was so cold outside!
when we got back at the hotel, i relaized that my pants were damaged! the bottom part was teared awkwardly and its hard to walk because my shoes kept stepping on it, i asked givanni if he has scissors and apprently not and he suggested to saw it with a key - i did that but we were laughing because it didnt made any progress, lol, then i sneaked out in the kitchen and found some butter knives there, i went wuickly back to the room and saw my jeans with a butter knife - in just 5 strokes the awkward tear was fixed! hahaha i quickly washed the butter knife and put it back in the table :D wahahahaha
after setting in and watching some cnn on the tv, we said goodnight to each other!
