It has always been my dream to visit Paris
, France. I have been learning French for several years now. We left Thursday November 5, 2009 out of the Parkersburg/Wood County airport and 50 minutes later arrived in Washington Dulles Airport. We now had about 5 hours to kill before departing on our flight to Paris. Finally, after waiting for what seemed like forever, due to my excitement, we boarded and were on our way to Paris! It was a night flight so we didn't get to see much out the windows, which was a little disappointing because it was my first flight over the ocean and I wanted to see! We finally landed at Charles De Gaulle Airport Terminal 1 at around 6:00 in the morning.
I was very surprised at how our flight seemed like the only people in the airport at the time. Well we left the airport by the Roissy buses, that take you to the L'Opera Metro stop. We were going to take the L'Opera metro to the metro next to our hotel. But we were concerned about dragging our luggage onto the metro and having to caring it up all those stairs, so we went to the taxi stand and took a taxi the rest of the way. We saved a lot of money as opposed to taking a taxi from Charles De Gaulle to our hotel. Our bus tickets cost about 20 euros for the two of us, and out taxi was about 10 euros. And I have heard of peoples taxis costing a minimum of 50 euros depending on traffic. So we arrive at the Eiffel Park Hotel at around 10 in the morning and check in time isnt until 1pm they store our bags for us.
The first thing I go to is the Eiffel Tower, which was a about a 10 minute walk from our hotel. We just sat on a bench on stared at it, and kept talking about how we can't believe we are actually here! We get back to the hotel and they let us check in early. And my plan was for us to take a short nap then head back to the tower and go to the top while it was still daylight and stay til nighttime to get the best of both worlds. Well my planned failed because of us being so tired and jetlagged we slept until it was nighttime and everything was closed. So here we are wide awake and very hungary with nothing open! We manage to watch T.V. until exactly 7am when the breakfast buffet at the hotel starts. We were so hungary we didn't mind paying the 12 euros per person. It was a very good breakfast though.
So after that, we take the metro to Notre Dame. We go into the Catherdral, it was so beautiful with all the stained glass windows and chandeliers. Then we take the spiral stairs all the way up to the top where we are next to all the gargoyales, it was a excellent view of the city. Then we climbed up some very steep even higher wooden stairs to reach to gigantic bell. We finally came back down and headed to the Louvre. We entered through the mall. I have always heard there will be a very long line to get into the Louvre, so when inside the mall I found this long line and we waited in this line for about 20-30 minutes until we could see where this line was going, we discovered this line was headed into the Apple store in the mall, so we asked a guard and he pointed us in the direction of the Louvre entrance, which had no one in line at all.
So we just pointlessly waited in a line, we laughed about it for the entire time we were exploring the Louvre. We really only had enough time to explore the Sully wing. But number 1 on my list to see was the Mona Lisa, of course. So we went to see that first then took out time exploring the rest until closing. Then we left through the pyramid. And went on to get a crossiant and a 4 euros bottle of coke and explore the Jardin des Tuileries. Our hotel was a street down from the Rue Cler so we went there and explored all the markets. On the way back to the hotel we stop at the Supermarche and stock up on snacks and breakfast so we will be set for the next morning. Then head back to the hotel for another busy day tomorrow.
We wake up early the next morning and head to the Arc D'Triomphe, it was one of my favorite things we saw.
Especially the view from the top, which we had to take more spiral stairs to the top. From the top was my favorite view of the Eiffel Tower. I loved the view of the Champs-Elysees also. And that was our next destination once we had climbed back down. We went into many stores, my favorite being Sephora!
We next walked back to our hotel just walking along the Seine. Thats when we got the idea of taking a dinner cruise along the Seine.
That evening we went up the Eiffel Tower by the time we made it to the top all we had were night shots. But the view was still absolutley stunning. It was really windy and cold but worth every minute!!
The next day we had to meet with Celine our wedding planner and Don the pastor who was to marry us. So were arrived at our church, which was the American Church in Paris.
Got familiar with everything we were supposed to do and where to walk and all that stuff. We were completely blown away by the church it looked so small from the outside and was massive on the inside. By the time we were done with all that it was time for our cruise. So we headed to the foot of the Eiffel Tower at Port de la Bourdonnais where our boats left from and dropped you back off at. It was really beautiful, we go to see so much, we went down a little past Notre Dame then came back, it was a hour long cruise.
The next day was our wedding, but first we had planned on going to see the Moulin Rouge, which we made it there, and then we were going to walk to Sacre Coeur, but once we got there we ran out of time so we had to head back to the hotel and get ready.
Our wedding planner had arranged for a 2cv car to pick us up and take us to our church, from there we had the wedding, then we got a 2 hour photo shoot at the places I desired. I chose, Trocadero, Alexandre III Bridge, and Arc D'Triomphe. First we went to the bridge, had pictures, then went to the Arc D'Triomphe, and finally Trocadero, where when I looked at the back of my dress I realized I had swept up some leaves and a cigarette butt and my dress was really dirty on the bottom, but it was ok. I considered it some of Paris I was gonna take home with me. The weather for our entire stay was beautiful, we could not have picked a better week to go. There was definitley some things we didnt get to see, we just didn't have enough time. I wanted to go to Versailles
, and see Sacre Coeur (I did get to see from a distance, though), and Bastille, and go to the top of the Eiffel Tower during the daytime. So I most certainly have plenty of reasons to return. And we do plan on returning someday in the future! It was the most beautiful place I have ever been to!
