I get the feeling life is passing him by...
Flew into Chiang Mai on the Saturday afternoon and taxi'd to my lovely, quiet guesthouse within the old city walls of CM. First impressions were excellent - definitely a more relaxed atmosphere than Bkk but still bustling. Quick shower and then wandered around the city centre to see what could be found. The old defensive walls and gates look great and the canal running throughout gives the place a natural feel. The only real complaint would be the amount of 'farang' (white foreigners) that seem to live there, which is not exactly what I came here for! But this is a pretty minor point overall - I liked the city from the first day on.

In the evening, I managed to watch the Spurs game and then got chatting to a couple of lovely Thai women (no, not bar girls, ye cynics!) and they took me out and about on the back of their scooter for a few drinks and a night tour of the city. Fun and a proper local experience. One of these girls I would be seeing a lot more of a few weeks down the line, but more of that next time! :D Got up Sunday and travelled about 20km south of Chiang Mai to arrive at my home for the next month... Nugent Waterside, where 12 of us would be doing a 4-week intensive CELTA teaching course (my route to becoming an English teacher abroad). See how this went in my next entry...
