Killarney and the Ring of Kerry

Killarney Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

In July and August of 2000, my parents and I visited my mom's family in Donegal, Ireland. We decided to take in the rest of the country while we were at it, as well as visit Scotland, my dad's ancestral home.

Killarney and the Ring of Kerry

At the time of this trip, I was dating a guy whose last name was Ross.  Naturally, when I noticed a sign for a Ross Castle while driving through the Ring of Kerry, we had to stop and look at the place.  Mom insisted we take a horse-drawn carriage to the castle, which, although extraordinarily touristy and slightly cheesy, just added to the magical feel of the whole place.  Later that day we continued driving along the Ring of Kerry, stopping in Muckross for some more sight-seeing, before finally ending up in Listowell for the night.
