In July and August of 2000, my parents and I visited my mom's family in Donegal, Ireland. We decided to take in the rest of the country while we were at it, as well as visit Scotland, my dad's ancestral home.

Edinburgh

Quick tour around the city.  I had been to Scotland once before, but only to Edinburgh, about four years before with my mom.  We pretended we were experts on the city and showed my dad Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, and then were quite unsure as to how to spend the remainder of our day.

I had recently read about Greyfriar's Bobby, so I went to see his grave and decided I needed to own a Skye terrier of my own one day in order to know that kind of loyalty myself.  For anyone who doesn't know, Greyfriar's Bobby was a dog who sat on his master's grave in Greyfriar's Churchyard until his own death fourteen years later.

We loved Edinburgh, the castle, the palace, and the whole time there, which wa not nearly long enough. :) That story of the dog's loyalty is so amazing and touching.
