Cairo and Giza Pyramids. Egypt

I should have named this blog "Egypt at 120 kph" because of the rush trip that we made in 1 day. That is how fast our driver was going all day. We were working on an old steam ship, a tramp steamer, and had taken a load of cargo to the Egyptian Army in Alexandria. We were in port for a couple of days and our section has days off during port watch work days so 5 of us hired a car and a driver to take us to Cairo and to the Giza Pyramids. We worked all night then got off at 7:45 am, took a quick shower and left the ship with our driver at 8am. The driver had a small Peugeot station wagon and with 5 of us plus the driver it was a bit crowded expecially since two of us were big men.
It took us a few hours to reach Cairo and the first place we went was the National Museum. It is a very historic place and had a lot of security surrounding the building. After the visit to the museum, we stopped at several shops where we were expected to buy souviners. Finally we made it to Giza after stopping to eat for the first time all day and we were scheduled to ride a camel out to the pyramids and Sphynix. We rode to the base of one of the large pyramids first and took a lot of pictures. It was getting late in the afternoon because the driver kept stopping at these "gift" shops so we did not have time to look inside of the pyramids and Sphinx where it was possible.
After we left the driver still wanted to take us to more shops so we made him find a place to buy us some beer before we would go inside any of the shops. I am happy I went but would not like to return.
Some things to remember if you go, find out before you pay how many places you are going to "have" to visit before you get to the pyramids, get some local money yourself and don't let the driver/guide pay for everything and then charge you double at the end of the day, find out the closing times of the places you are going to visit, make the guide tell you what is extra cost and what is included.
