We finally left the ship at about 12 oclock after a total chaotic disembarkation and jumped into a taxi to the Barra area of Salvador. We found a small hotel Papaya Verde just back from the enormous beaches. very hot and sunny. We stayed overnight and had our first meal of Yakisorba a pasta dish with prawns chicken and steak in gravy....actually wonderful. Jean is suffering from a disasterous hair cut on the ship and is still wearing the paper bag at the moment.
The bus ride to the airport on the next day was hairaising the bus trying to be an f1 car. the first flight to Ilhaus took 15 minutes, then a flight to Sao Paulo. Again we found a taxi to take us to the asian quarter, and found the Hotel Banri a great chinese hotel in the japanese chinatown. Again we ate in a bonito bar, more Yakisorba, must remember to order small portions since we had enough to feed 6 people.
Sunday in Sao Paulo, everything was shut...apart from the asian street market right outside our hotel, more food tempura bbq steak and loads more so we took the metro over to the bus station and found our first overnight bus to Foz Iguazu. The seats reclined most of the way and we both slept quite a bit overnight. we were both still in our beds in the morning when everyine else got off, we had arrived an hour early! The transport arround here is very easy, buses are frequent and go everywhere.
We went straight to the Waterfalls and after paying our entry fee the bus...ours was the one covered in buterfly pictures.. took us though the rainforest´to the start of a walk up to the falls.
We walked along the prepared path, the area covn millions of different coloured butterflies, and bumped into a couple of racoons and a toucan before we even reached the magnificent waterfalls.
