Why Saint Vincent? Why not?!?
August 25, 1998
This trip took place over 10 years ago and I'm just writing about it now, so lots of the details are forgotten now and the photographs were pre-digital and not very good quality. It was more than a one day trip, but this will just be a one entry blog. If you were wondering, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is located in the Caribbean to the south of St. Lucia, west of Barbados and north of Grenada. A friend of mine from university had spent some time volunteering in Saint Vincent on the island of Bequia decided, along with his fiancee, to have their wedding there. I figured this was a good enough reason to go to a place I might never had thought of visiting, so I convinced another friend to join me and off we went. Here some of the details that I still remember and some things I learned from this trip...
- turbo props are extremely slow
- landing on the standard three wheels is overrated, two is much more interesting
- black sand beaches look exotic, but burn your feet really bad
- make friends with the local
- sand gets everywhere
- watching a friend wear a tux and sweating while you're wearing shorts and sandals IS funny
- eating your dinner during a power outage makes tasting even more important
- driving here is an art, not a science
