We left Alice Springs via a bus tour, heading for Adelaide. We chose a company called Groovy Grape, who run a number of different tours out of Adelaide. It turned out to be one of the best things we did all year.
Our group consisted of 15 people from a spread of age backgrounds, but all looking to have fun, and we had a great time with them. The tour lasted about a week.
Our first stop on the tour was to see Dinky the singing Dingo (http://www.australiantraveller.com/component/content/article/2204), who was fairly entertaining, as singing dogs go. I think the main attraction was a brief break in the rather long drive from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon via Erldunda and Peterman (apparently our bus couldn't go on the shorter Ernest Giles Road). We had another brief stop at Erldunda, and another at Peterman, before finally arriving into King's Canyon.
We slept at the campground, outside in swags, which was a lot of fun, and were up early in the morning to see the sunrise at nearby King's Canyon. We had a walk around various bits of the canyon, with the occasional bit of scrambling. It really is a spectacular place, and the rising sun accentuated the natural red of the rocks.
