So, 02 October 2009 was Batik Day in Indonesia.  I did not know that, but oddly enough, I noticed that "Batik" was a trending topic on Twitter.  It only really caught my attention because I had just received a Batik shirt as a gift from Ari (TB: ariwardani) when her husband came to Chicago on a business trip.  So when I found out it was Batik day & I had a Batik shirt - well, I decided I'd better wear it. :)

Why was October 2nd Batik day?  What does Batik mean?  Well, UNESCO can answer that:

October 2nd was they day UNESCO added the dying process to its Intangible Heritage list.

ariwardani says:
Hi J! Good that you are also supporting the recognition from UNESCO about Batik. Don't get confused if another country claims Batik as its cultural heritage. It belongs to Indonesia. Nowhere else.
