The struggle to save

As we all know, traveling, as good and as liberating as it can be requires generally a substantial amount of money to even think about booking your flights and disappearing into a bliss! Saving the money is not the hard part, waiting for that dream date of your flight departure to creep up is considerably harder, but even still, the most taxing and challenging part is the sacrifices that have to be made to obtain enough funds to begin your trip/trips. I went from a party like crazy 4/5 nights a week hardly any sleep kind of guy to, well what I can only describe as a out half a night a week if im lucky (only drinking coke mind you :P) to having possibly the longest sleeps I have ever had in my life - other than the excitable twisting and turning that comes with the constant ideas and thoughts jumping into your head about your future escapades the other side of the globe.

Although generally my friends are very supportive of the fact I want to set up ship and sail a far, the constant winging and moaning I get on the phone about how I am never about anymore and all I do is work doesn’t exactly make the thought of staying in and checking my emails as appealing "Alex, we all going into London, you coming?". I suppose what I am trying to say is that traveling and the life changing experiences that hope go with it do not come cheaply, nor in most cases do they come easily, I suppose the majority of people that do globe trot are driven and dedicated - you reap what you sow I guess so the slightly up hill ride that im battling with at the moment will most definitely be worth it. Thank god I am not saving for something more mundane like 20 rolls of turf to re-do the garden, or saving for a rainy day, as I feel there would be no drive to save a pound let alone five thousand pounds what so ever!

All the above is a bit random and weird but felt like typing something with a different angle on traveling - the journey (and for most the saving and sacrifices are) actually begins long before you set foot on foreign soil.

BUT OH MY GOD I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Now 75l backpack in black or blue?? hmm
