Lougratte hosts House

Leaving Lougratte and heading by car, courtesy of my host Juliet. We head off to Bergerac Centre Ville (Centrum, Town Centre) just 45 minutes drive (and only 25 minutes from Bergerac Airport) away for the 11.31 train to Libourne, where I have to change trains to Saint Piere de Corps before changing again for SAUMUR. The Ticket price is 71.40€ return and 56.00€ single fare (or 35.00€, if you book about one month in advance - booking on line and collecting your ticket from the ticket machine at the station with the card you paid with on line is the easiest option.  The ticket machines are in various languages too. www.

voyages.sncf.com being the French train website to make bookings. You can also just buy the ticket on the day at the station if you wish, but will pay the FULL fare. My journey time including changes is approximately 4 hours. So it's time to relax once more and soak up the 'Rolling French Countryside'!The 11.31 train leaves on time and the next four hours were a breeze. All the 'changes' were without incident and I kept in touch with my hosts Marion & Christopher via SMS en route. Finally arriving on time in Saumur, where Marion was waiting on the Platform for me and to help me with my luggage (Bless her). We set of in the car to her home, which was only 20 minutes away. On Arrival, I met her husband Chris, the  dog 'Asher' and 7 cats!!. Continuing the introductions and settling in we sat down to a cuppa and then i was shown around the premises and then to my room where I off loaded my baggage and took a shower before sitting down to a meal consisting of Roast chicken, vegtables and Gravy! in addition to a bottle of GOOD wine from 2004, which Chris has some Knowledge of wines, which i was interested to learn.

The weather is changing at the moment and winter is about to arrive with the temperatures plummeting from an average 30c degrees ( the summer and autumn seasons can be exceptionally warm and much better than I was ever used to in the United Kingdom- where it seems to rain 90% of the time) to the single figures and below. Sometimes reaching as low as - 10c in this part of France. Last January, whilst living in Dijon I experienced -21c.

My first days work consisted of some very light duties - moving some furntiure around and preparing a wall for plastering. We also had to go to the builders merchants to collect some 'Limechalk' stone for fitting around the window frames.

Marion and Chris are such a lovely couple and I am sure I will enjoy my stay here, which could be upto 6 months, as they are planning on selling their home and moving to Malta. I already have an invite to go and visit them there too!!
