Versailles, the royal beauty
Versailles Palace is a must see, is absolutely beautiful!
The castle is one of the largest in the world with 700 rooms and more than 2.000 windows, so you definitely can`t see it in only a few hours!!
The Hall of Mirrors designed by Mansart is spectacular as the king put on his most ostentatious display of royal power in order to impress the people. From the central window of the Hall of Mirrors you look down on the grand perspective that leads the gaze to the wonderful fountains.
The Royal Chapel is one of the architectural highlights, unfortunately can`t be visited.
The fabulous Gardens of Versailles includes roughly 1400 fountains, using water pumped up from the Seine, are almost as spectacular as the castle, simply breathtaking, the best I’ve seen.
After touring the palace, you can rent a bike to ride around the gardens. They have also smaller bikes for children.
· Go in the off-season. I went in May and it was already hot, hot, hot!!
Take in consideration that the palace is not air conditioned!
They need also to seriously consider restricting the amount of people they admit to the palace at one time.
· The entry line was huge. I recommend paying an extra 7 Euros to have a guided tour and avoid the two hours long line to get into the castle.
· Save your money from the dining at the restaurants inside the gardens because they are overpriced for the quality of food.
· Just be aware: Versailles means hard work, so plan to spend at least 5 hours total inside the castle, gardens and Marie Antoinette's estate.
I hadn`t enough time to visit everything, so the Marie Antoinette’s estates, the Grand Trianon, the Petite Trianon and the Hamlet remained undiscovered for me:-(
But this is a good reason to return there someday!
