Technically wasn't my 1st time in Colombia, but last time was because of business. This time was different. Why to Colombia and for a short time? Well, I found a great deal for the flight ticket and couldn't help it to buy it. No complains about exchanging cloudy Lima for warm Cali. And I was able to check what I've heard so many times: Colombians are very friendly!!! I want to go back for longer!

Sat 24th - no party on Sat :( but food :P

hanged cellphones, hahaha, they were the new phone booths
First thing to do at the terminal would be exchanging money, which I couldn't do because I didn't have my passport with me, grrrrr. Who will be always carrying his passport? Nevermind. Terminal is big and had a lot of things to do, including internet cafes and lots of shops. Mmm, I know where I'd buy sweets to take back home, but I'd take care my last day in Cali.  Ended up staying at the terminal a bit longer than expected. I wanted to check at what time the buses to Popayan (next destination) would departure on Sunday. Well, there were buses leaving every 15min starting at 5am, so there wouldn't be any problem. Also the tickets should be bought same day before leaving, sweet!

Ok, time to go to the hostel. But for the walk I bought a snack, a sweet one. There are some sort of wafers called obleas.
yummy oblea!
They are big, very thin and round. They give you 2 pieces and in the middle they will put a jam or dulce de leche (like a cream caramel). I was as happy as a child with a new toy, hahaha. Eating those tasty things demands some special skills. At the end I had cream caramel all over my face, hahaha. But it was worth it. Terminal is big and I was a bit confused about how to leave it until I saw the sign saying "tunnel" and figured it out which way to go.

Back at the hostel I took a shower and there was a pleasant surprise: hot water! Without knowing how I made the electric shower working right, sweet! Just if the bed would have turned softer, the place would have become perfect... oh well, this would be the last night here.
There was something to do before dinner: finding accommodation for the last night in Cali.
nice fountain at 6th Ave.
Before leaving the hostel I did some research about hotels in the area and marked them in the map.

Which was supposed to be a short walk took much longer than expected. I was a bit tired, but love to walk and the night wasn't hot. Furthermore, I was commited to find a comfy place and wouldn't leave without finding a good one :P Saturday is not as busy as Friday, or maybe it was early or maybe... there was a soccer match going on, hahaha. My bag was full of business cards of different hotels. Making a decision would be though, but there was time to do it later. Walking along the 6th Ave. gave me the chance to see other part of Cali. Downtown is more about churches and here is different. Also it was a quiet night, so it was perfect.

The night before we saw a place about seafood and already decided to go there for dinner.
Gunther's double!!!
In our way I saw Gunther's double!!! That puppy looked like Gunther - when he was a baby. I couldn't help it to approach and pet him. Ok, ok, I also took a pic. But I asked for permission first. I even introduced him to Minigunther and told the owner that I had a dog who looks the same, so he wouldn't think I was crazy, at least not that much.

Finally arrived to the restaurant. It's about seafood cooked in Colombian style. The place's decoration is about ships and sea. Since the weather was perfect, why not having a sit outside? All the waiters were dressed as sailors and they were very kind and friendly, what a surprise, hahaha! To drink: Colombian beer!

The place was famous for their oysters and that would be for appetizer. We got a dish with oysters and shrimp. It was good. And for main dish I asked for the Kalamary (combination of lobster, prawn, shrimp and coleslaw).
nice table outside
It was very good. Shawn asked for the Colombian Cebiche. Ok, Peruvian Cebiche is the best! They use tomato sauce in their cebiche... no no no. Maybe it's an acquired taste, but it'd take me a loooooong time to like the cebiche this way, hahaha.

I took a tour inside the restaurant. Love the decoration and it was cozy inside. I talked to the owner and she was telling me they are over 20 years old. Food was good and service really great. Well, although it was Saturday night walked straight back to the hostel. I woke up early and wanted to get up early next morning too. Before going to sleep I'd repack my stuff so next morning would leave soon.

Sunday 25th going to a charming town: Popayan
After doing check out went straight to the terminal. This time driving a cab, no looking forward to carry the backpacks, hahaha.
meat and other internal parts of the cow
The day before I checked the bus companies going to Popayan, so today it was just about going straight to the one that looked better. Although all the companies departure from here, not everyone is well organized. This one looked very good.

The bus left on time, but we haven't even left the terminal when they stopped to pick up some passengers and this would happen over and over, hahaha. Oh well, this would take longer than expected. Hope the bus gets full soon :P

In our way out of the city - I can't say if we were going south or north, guess south - we crossed Cali's open market. It took us long to pass the market, maybe because the traffic was crazy there, hahaha. I saw many interesting things like a stall full of knives, huge plantains but by far the thing that captured my attention the most was a was huge metal basket full of cow's skulls! Wow! It was creepy, but interesting at same time. Damn! Why did the bus speed at that time? I couldn't take a picture :(

Ok, finally we were leaving Cali. The landscape started to change...

Tasty seafood and great decoration at Tajamares Ostreria
A couple of days ago I saw this seafood place and wanted to go there, so dinner sounds perfect.

This restaurant is located on busy and party 6th Ave. So, it's very easy to find it. No way, you will miss it. The decoration of the place would make you notice it at first sight.

The place is small. There are 2 tables outdoors and the rest are inside. All the decoration is related to the sea and ships. Do not surprise if you see a net or a lifevest hanging on the walls. Even the waiters are dressed as sailors.

This place is over 20 years old and is famous. Inside you'll find some of the articles written about it hanging on the walls.

The food is seafood and fish. Actually the full name of the place is Tajamares Ostreria. Ostreria comes from Oysters, so that's what we got for appetizer.

Appetizer Combinado: Mixed Oysters and Shrimp. It was good. It came with lime and crackers to dip. Good start

These were the main dishes:
-Kalamary: combination of lobster, prawn, shrimp & coleslaw. The coleslaw was a great surprise. It was very tasty. And the lobster, yummy!!!
-Cebiche: couldn't leave the place without trying the Colombian cebiche. Ok, it wasn't my idea to order it, hahaha. Just looking at the dish gave me a weird feeling. Fish looked overcooked and tomato sauce, mmm. Well, good to say that I tried it. But I won't order it again, hehehe

Even how the dishes were presented, remembers you the sea, hahaha. They take care of every single detail. Just remembered the cute mini ship with the forks and knives. Sweet!

Also liked the color of the cushions outside very much!

The staff is very kind and nice. Also the owner who is inside is very friendly and was telling me the story about the place.

I was surprised the place wasn't crowded, but I guess it was because it wasn't exactly cheap and people don't like seafood that much... well maybe it was just that day.

If you want to try seafood in a Cali style this place is a good option.
