Rescatando Nuestra Herencia
Me and my friends had been to Zacatecas on a trip and decided to visit Jerez on a Holy Saturday. Jerez is a small town with many colorful traditions and the party on Holy Saturday was a blast. There was so many people in the streets, that I eventually lost my friends and was unable to find them. So, being all alone I decided to entertain myself a little more culturally and visited one of the city museums. What I found was impressive. They had a wonderful collection of paintings with the theme of mexican traditions. I was absolutely impressed by most of the paintings, so I asked the museum personnel if the painter (Marta Muro is her name) was local. They said she was, she actually lived next door!!! Unfortunately she was out of town at the moment, but they gave me a card with her information.
Once back in Chihuahua, I told my friends that it would be a great activity to invite that painter to Chihuahua for an exhibition. They also thought it was a good idea, so we did some activities to coordinate the event. We went to Jerez again to talk to the painter in person and we set up all the details. The day of the inauguration of the exhibition was set to Oct 28th. We entitled it "Rescatando Nuestra Herencia" (Rescueing our heritage).
I was a bit nervous since I had to give a little speech. Fortunately mine was short since local authorities and the painter herself also had to speak. I think the reception was wonderful! I am glad we had the chance to show her art to the people of Chihuahua and now to you if you check this blog!!
