Why is the weather always bad when you need it to be nice and nice when you leave town???
Today we caught the ferry to the mainland then made our way to the bus stop, right across the road from the ferry stop. Nice and easy. I do really like the buses in Malaysia. In general the buses here have 3 seats a row rather than 4 so you have the aisle going down with 2 on one side and one on the other.
After the confusion of the Taiping bus station actually being a town over in Kamptung. we did get there and thrawl through some of the most run down hotels in town till we found Peking Hotel. Looked pretty pricey. Very pricey but it was dead cheap so we could not pass it up.
Taiping is a lovely place. The city is a little shabby athough the colourful suspended lights along the streets lend it some redeeming charm.
There are so many monkeys in the park that we almost missed the giant water monitor 10 feet away!
We had planned to hike up the mountain for the sunset but in the end we jumped into the zoo as it looked likely to rain. We were not wrong.
The zoo was cool. Orangutans up close...sort of. Slow Loris and not the Canadian kind. Chattering loris, again not the Canadian kind....we think.
The zoo did lend itself a highlight to my time in Malaysia. Granted meeting Kinki was pretty cool. This was better. I finally got to see a Malaysian koala!!!!! They do exist!!! Shame I did not see him in Kuala Lumpur.
P.S. If you go to Taiping and the staff in the local Pizza Hut claim that we ate there, it's all a big lie!! We would not do such a thing. We are proper travellers. We ate local food and had mie goreng....honest.
P.P.S. The Pizza Hut in Taiping is pretty nice but they do not do free refills as everywhere else in the world, eh, so I have been told....
