Breathtaking. Awe inspiring. Amazing. Gob smacking. Beauty incarnate.....
These are just some of the things one could say to describe Kek Lok Si temple high in the Penang hills.
You must first endure the ceasless barrage from the stalls an your approach to the temple. If you stick with it through the stalls, you will be nicely rewarded. There is a nice breather halfway up the hills where there are no stalls. Well there is a guy selling lettuce and stuff to throw into the masses of turtles in a courtyard area with a little pond. Of course, you could always follow the road to by pass all of this but where would the fun be in that.
Side point: I did not realise what a superstar Mr. Bean is in Malaysia. They evidently love him here.
The temples beauty speaks for itself. The views offered from its top most tower is unparralled in Penang. The colours of the temple are so vibrant. It is easily the most spectacular temple i have ever seen and thats even after seeing Angkor Wat and all its amazing temples.
The gigantic statue was covered in scaffolding when I visited but you do still get a sense of the grand scale of things when you stand next to it.
The fun did not stop there. Later that night, once again Kinki showed up and took us out. This time we drove all the way out to Batu Ferrenghi and had many a drink down by the beach in one of the beach bars there. Great way to spend a night out, by the beach.
