One day to Santorini

In October 2009 I have been to Crete with my mom. This was the first time in Greece but for sure not the last time!

One day to Santorini

On the catamaran, with a beautiful view

Because of Jessica I knew that you could go to Santorini. Of course we wanted to do this as well. As I told before it was the last catamaran boat of this season, so we were lucky!
At 7.15 am we took the taxi to the bus station but apparently the bus of 7.30 already left so we had to wait a bit longer. The first bus we could take was at 8.10am which was a bit late. They told us It was 45 minutes to 1 hour to get to Heraklion.

Well this was not the case when we were in the bus. We already asked one time to a girl how long it will take to the bus station, from that place normally it would take 10 minutes! But we were in a hurry, we just had 20 minutes left before the boat would leave!!

So than the girl said maybe it’s better to get out of the bus on that place where we stopped and get the taxi, so we run to the taxi and just got the boat, 15 min later we left.

Because it’s closed inside I became bit afraid and not feeling well. I walked to the back and sit on the ground, that’s the place where I felt the best. One guy of the crew came to me and asked if I felt ok, I said no but that it’s ok. Just have to wait 2 hours. He said no, fresh air is good. I said no, it’s not necessary but he was standing on it, that I need to get outside. So I sat on the stairs and had such a nice view! A few minutes later my mum came as well, and we sat there the whole trip, except when we were almost at Santorini. The boat ride took 2 hours, which was longer then I thought.

There were two possibilities for us. One is; go by bus to the capital Fira, or get a taxi. So we chose for the taxi, and we were happy at the end. Because it’s a volcanic island and a bit scary to go by a big bus! I’m sure they can drive very very well, but we preferred the taxi. Two other passengers from South Africa enjoyed us. In the big street of Fira we had to get out and we walked in a very sweet street.

Went into some shops and when we were on the ‘highest’ point it was such a beautiful view, damn! Lovely, made some pictures but we were hungry so decided to sit down in one of the restaurants. Pricy, but such a good food, and not less important; beautiful view. Because we just had 5 hours time we decided to go after the lunch instead of staying at this place.

100 meter of walking and the black sky fell down, it was not just a little rain, but a whole swimming pool! You can see it on the pictures.

We were just in a small shop to buy something and we wanted to walk outside, but the street became a canal. We run to a tavern where we bought something to drink. When the rain stopped, we just walked a little bit around but it is a very small place so we went to the taxi place and asked how much it costs to get a taxi with a driver for some places.

He showed us on the map that they could bring us to some places which will take 1.5 hour in total for €65,00. Of course it’s expensive but I’m sure you can’t find it in Holland. So we decided to do that.

This trip was so beautiful, the Santorini as you see on the photos and postcards. Blue, white churches and the blue sea, lovely. We just had time to make a picture over here. We drove further to a place that is called Ia. We had half an hour the time to walk around, enjoy and make pictures. This was so beautiful, it’s much more beautiful than Fira. It is definitely not touristic.

At 3.10pm we had to go back to the taxi.

We drove further though a very beautiful part of Santorini. There are the most expensive houses of Santorini. Together with the blue-white churches and the blue sea, this picture was complete.

At 3.40pm we arrived in Fira again, where we still had to wait 40 minutes for our taxi back. We bought an ice-cream, 20 minutes left.

We were too early for the boat back, but that was not a problem. There was already a big line. On the way back I sat at the back again, because I felt better over here. Somewhere in the middle the crew came to sit next to us and start talking so, after a while he wanted to smoke a cigarette and asked us if we would like to join him, of course. So the second time outside in the cold! Brr.. everyone was looking at us, if we were strangers!

When we were back in Heraklion we took the bus back to Malia, where we bought Kebab, which was disgusting! I’ve never had such a disgusting kebab!!! So I threw it immediately in the garbage.

BubbleGum says:
Ou, can't wait to see the pictures. I'm in love with this place! :)
