Assembling at Dulles

The MYO group gathered at Washington Dulles International Airport at 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning. The high-school age students were happy to have an extra day before Spring Break and excited about the trip. There was ample time to clear security and for Starbucks before departure at 11:22 a.m..

Washington, D.C. (Dulles)-Tokyo (Narita)

All-Nippon Airways NH1 (B777-200)

The westbound flight was entirely in daylight. We had clear views of Canada and then Alaska below. It looked cold down there, still locked in Winter. ANA provided full meal service. Lunch: Korean barbequed chicken. Snack: Cup Noodles. Dinner: Seafood pasta. During the flight I watched the contemporary Japanese film “Year One in the North.” (The story of a Samurai clan forced to disband and migrate north to the Hokkaido frontier in the 1870s. The film starred Ken Watanabe.) It was a good historical film to set the mood for our trip.
