This is my trip to New Orleans for the Voodoo fest held on the Halloween weekend. I had the chance to meet Sal (sincitytraveler), see my favorite band KISS live and have some great fun at the Crescent City!

Sal and some Eminem rappin'!

With Sal at the Eminem concert!

I checked in my hostel, texted Sal and then headed to the Voodoo fest. I had a hard time finding a spot to park, and then had to walk for miles, but fortunately it was very easy to meet with Sal at the big VOODOO sign at the entrance of the Fest. Sal is an awesome guy! What can i say, as soon as I met him I knew we would have a great time. He is so cool and easygoing, we found ourselves talking about many things on our way to the main stage of the fest. It had rained a bit during the afternoon, so the City Park was all wet and muddy.

Eminem was already rappin' when we got to the stage. I am not a big fan of rap, but I had always found Eminem's music cool. I have to say that he is much better live! I knew many of the songs he did, so I had a lot of fun. One thing I liked about him was how he addresses the crowd, he is like shy, humble and with an attitude at the same time. Great entertainer. At the end of the concert me and Sal went chillin' out to a pizza bar somewhere near his hotel. There were many people already dressed in customes for Halloween. We did the protocolar toast for the meet-up with Tequila shots and then had some pizza which resulted to be great. We then had the chance to talk a bit more about ourselves and again I was very impressed with Sal's personality and sense of humor. We then called it a day and agreed to meet the next day.

Well, at least you had some time to spend with them there, that is cool! Say hi to Florence and her husband for me next time you talk with them! They were very nice people.

Mobile was very pretty but I hardly spent any time there. I just met Florence and her husband for dinner and we watched the sunset from their balcony overlooking the river. I need to come back down there when I don't have a convention so I can see more of the area.

I had a peaceful experience there
I don't have anything to complain about this hostel in New Orleans. You get what you pay for, right?

I was a bit reluctant to stay in a hostel in New Orleans since none of them have very good reviews, and some of the reviews were a bit scary. Anyway, I decided to give it a try, what's the worst thing that could happen? Also, this was going to be my first time in a shared bedroom, so I was prepared for the worst (like stoned-drunk loud teenagers throwing up in the middle of the night).

The hostel is in a rather dark neighboorhood but it is close to downtown and most places in New Orleans (not to a walking distance anyway). The guy at the front desk was a bit creepy but I guess it all added a bit of spookyiness to the Halloween holiday. I got my key, sheets, blanket and pillow and went to see my dorm. The bed was definitively small and the matress old and deformed. There was nobody else in the dorm at the moment, but later I found that I did have roommates. None of them was a problem, but I didn't have the chance to really talk to any of them. I had brought my ear plugs just in case, but noise was not a problem at all. I liked the dorm because it was split in two, so you would actually share your space with just other 3 people. I only had one guy in my room, but I never got to meet him.

The room and everywhere else was very clean, they did a good job. The showers were ok, but the door was a bit difficult to open/shut and the shower itself was too tall! I had problems adjusting to where I wanted it. Hot water was not a problem.

The parking lot for the hostel was kind of small, but I was lucky to always find a spot.
They had wireless internet at the lobby and you could store valuable items at the front desk.

This is definitively not a party hostel. I liked that. Overall I liked it and I would stay there again.

Cool place to chill out a bit
We found this place while walking around downtown New Orleans. It was a good place to chill out and have a few drinks and pizza. The only think I would point out is that this pizza bar doesn't have waiters so you need to order at the bar and the service may not be so quick. The pizzas tasted good, but they didn’t have a lot to choose from (just pepperoni and cheese pizza). Some loud music from a club next door sometimes would interrupt but it’s ok. I would go there again. There were lots of people wearing customes since it was the night before Halloween.
