Agios Nikolaos unfortunately in heavy rain

Visiting Agios Nikolaos by bus from Malia, it will take about 20 minutes. When you arrive in the town you have to walk down the hill, and there you can find the harbor. Agios Nikolaos  is a small town in the eastern part of Crete.  It is called after a byzantine chapel Saint Nicholas. It is built around a picturesque lake at the north-western side of the Merabello bay, the biggest bay in Crete. Inside the town there is a small lake which is quit strange. In this area you can find a lot of touristic shops, and a huge amount of restaurants. We did not see much of this place, because it was raining very hard. So we left early.

travelling by bus
Taking the bus in Crete is easy. There are as far as i know two bus company's. Minoan lines and another one Anek tours. The names of the company are on the side of the bus. When you enter the ticket station in a big city you buy your ticket overthere. On your ticket you can find the number of the bus. But they can change that, so inform when you are in the bus. On a big timetable you can see on which platform your bus is arriving or leaving. Take care you take enough time to travell, because it can be very busy in the bus, and a lot of people are using this kind of transport. So the bus will stop several times during your trip, and the people pay in the bus. It is also possible that you cannot sit during the trip because busses can be overloaded with people. When you travel with your suitcase you have to put it in the luggageroom in the bus. So not inside the bus. You have to put it there yourself and take it out yourself. The driver will stay in the bus. Busses between big cities will drive twice an hour.
