The beautiful church on the main square in Ponce.
Driving from Cabo Rojo to Ponce covers some really lovely country that is a bit different than the rest of the island. From what we could see, it is a bit more arid and a little less lush on this part of the island, reminding us somewhat of driving through southern Spain. One of the interesting pictures we took was of some sort of a blimp that was floating motionless above the hills and we still have no idea what it was. There is a picture below, and If anyone has an idea, let us know!

Ponce is a lovely, classic Puerto Rican city, the island's second largest. Although our GPS had some fun trying to find the hotel as we wound through the narrow streets in the old part of the city, we found our hotel. We stayed in the new Ramada Inn, which is right on the main square in Ponce and is also the only Ramada Inn in Puerto Rico. Typically, we try to avoid chain hotels like this but we found a really great deal here so decided to go with it. Man was it hot! I realize this is relative - this is Puerto Rico, after all - but walking the streets of Ponce I felt like an ant under a magnifying glass! It was really hard to believe it was November!
