The last excursion day of this week. Today we'll visit Venice. At 7.30 AM we leave the hotel and go to Venice. The last part of the trip we have to go with a boat, because Venice is an island with no vehicles allowed.
After arriving with the boat we start with the guide and the earphones at a bridge called "the bridge of sighs (free translation)". This bridge connects Doge's palace with the jail and is called the bridge of sighs because the prisoners should sigh here for the last time before the go in jail for the rest of their lives. Then we go to the St. Mark's square. At the front of the square are two pillars, one with patron saint Theodorus and one with a lion with wings; the symbol of the evangelist Marcus. We see the library, next to the bell tower (98,6m high).
Me & my new friend ;)
At the other side of the square is the Basilica di San Marco. The evangelist San Marco lies in his church. After seeing St. Mark's square we walk through alleys and little squares to the famous Rialto bridge. After the Rialto bridge we have 2 hours spare time. We're getting a pizza in the sunshine and walking a little bit around. Then it's time for the gondola tour. Everybody's going except me and Madeleine. I already did this tour last year so I sacrificed myself to stay behind because that ended up better with numbers of gondola's. In the meantime I'm going to shop with Madeleine. When everybody's back it's time to go back to the boat and with the bus to the hotel. After dinner we drink something and that was the last night. At 4:30 in the middle of the night it's time to get up, pack our backs and leave. At wednesday 2 o'clock PM I'm back home. I was a very nice but also very tiring trip!
