Surfing day two! I love being in the water! What a perfect sport, even the waiting is amazing. Sitting on the board with your new surf peers, the sun is beating down, sparking water surrounds you, everyone is in a great mood, all you hear is joyous laughter and encouraging words when it’s your time to go catch a wave. I had two long rides today. AND I learned to turn, both left and right. Not fantastic turns, but nonetheless! It couldn’t have been a better surf day. I wish I could go again tomorrow but I’ve decided to leave Kuta and head to Ubud. Something is drawing me to that place. I decided to go there long ago when I first read about Bali in a Lonely Planet book.

I’m not sure what to expect. Funnily enough a new book I’m reading called Eat, Pray, Love is just getting to the part where the author heads to Bali and oddly she’ll be in Ubud just as I get there. I didn’t decide to go to Ubud based on this book, although I think now many people will and are. I’m glad I chose it on my own, without the book pulling me there. My decision seems organic, authentic, just like everything else about this trip. I find a ride to Ubud on the back of a local’s scooter. What a trip! An hour on a scooter, backpack on and my purse dangling from a hook between the drivers knees. I carefully watch it hoping it doesn’t go flying, with all my i.d. and money with it!
