The job at Stanford is great! The restaurant is well managed, the staff are really nice and the guests are lovely. Everyone asks me where I’m from. Some of them can’t understand my accent. Funny, I can’t understand some of theirs! My shifts are long for the service industry. Generally I'm working 6-8 hour shifts. This is AMAZING after the 1-4 hrs I was getting on the Gold Coast.
The hotel is a 15 min walk from Dave’s which is brilliant! I am making $23.10 an hour. Yahoo! And the greatest part, since I’m not an Australian resident, I get all of my taxes back when I leave the country. That is a good deal! Wages are quite high in Australia. And service is a good a place as any to work, especially for me with my serving experience. I had to buy new clothes for my uniform: pants, shoes, white button up shirt.
Dave and I love living together. When we have time together we savour every minute, going into the city, lounging at the beach, going for early breakfast before our shifts. We are settling into the daily grind stuff of making meals, cleaning house, etc. Its good to be in one place, working, making money, and being with Dave. There are things I miss though, mobility (sigh it would be so nice to have a car), and girls (I don’t have many to talk to here and I really miss my friends at home) but with the wonders of Skype and email I feel connected to home and can get my girlfriend fix pretty easily. I have to say, I was really worried when I didn’t have a job for that first week or so here but now that I’m working I’m feeling saweet!
Dave and I are planning a trip to Melbourne! We had thought we'd go to Alice Springs next week but then the flights were crazy expensive, so we've opted to head to Melbourne instead.
