After a 6:50am flight with a stoppover in Hyderbad we finally arrived in Bangalore at 11:00am. "Simon" our driver was there waiting for us. (Our original driver Sajeev was writing exams on his Sanscrit studies!! - so Simon was to fill in for the first two days and Sajeev will pick us up in Ootie).
We did not see much of Bangalore except the outskirts - there were many large companies and I can only imagine how many IT and other companies there were in town.
We drove for about 6 hours in total until we arrived in Mysore.
Simon was a very good driver, very pleasant and polite. His command of the English language had a bit of work to do on it though. He would sort of grunt out the words and we had a hard time understanding what he wanted to say. For example if he want to to know if we wanted to take a driving break and have a refreshment of bathroom break....he would grunt "Coffee - Tea- Toilet"?? After the first time we got the hang of it and he always took us to lovely places.
That afternoon we toured the palace in Mysore. It was lovely - built only about 100 years ago. We went back in the evening to see it light up (which they only do on Sundays).....that was very nice too. Lots of people. Mostly Indian tourists. We are surprised at how few foreigners there are. That night we stayed in a hotel that looked like it used to be an old estate. The guest rooms looked like it had been the stable area before.
