Peter Brock's winning car in 1984

Well we've been based in Grenfell now for a few months which is about an hour and a half west of Bathurst. A pilgrimage that should be made by all Australians at least once.

A work mate from Port Augusta came with us. And within 10 minutes of being in the gate we were at the bottom of conrod straight for the V8 ute race, this is a section of the track where cars go from 280km plus to 60km within approx 150-200 metres and the exausts snorted with fire with the rumble going through your chest . Awesome!!!. We were lucky enough to see a ute qualify for the Australian gymnastics team with a triple front sommer sault worthy of 10's. The crowd give him a roaring ovation when he got out unscathed.

The crowd was a little to tame though so we caught a bus up the hill. Half way up all the traffic was being stopped and searched by what looked like the Cabramatta police force with their sniffer dogs. Once up the hill we were treated to a wonderful collage of red and blue and the smell of beer, smoke, BBQ meat and the wafting smell of ethonol. The amount of work that has gone into these make shift bars and barbarians tents is amazing. It was like a small town :)

We go a taste of the Fujitsu V8's racing in the wet (and some bathurst weather) and the top 10 shoot out. TV does it little justice, they are incredibly skilled guys and girls and would retire to make good ambo's

We were also treated to the roulettes, F18 and trick riders.
