School Starts in Cuzco
starting off with a history lesson today...Legend tell that in the 12th century, the first inca, Manco Capac, was charged by Inti, the ancestral sun god, to find the navel of the earch - the spot where he could plunge a golden rod in the the ground until it disappeared. When at last Manco discovered teh city that was to become the thriving capital of the Inca empire.
So this has been my first week hanging out in a giant navel. More info about Cuzco is that it is winter here and they dont have heating in their homes, but they do have plenty of blankets. This is not only true in the homes, but also in school where you can pick up a blanket on the way in the door. It really isnt too cold here, but it does go below freezing during the night.
My day normally starts with breakfast of bread and cocoa tea at 7:15am and then visiting a museum, church or archelogical site in the city. I am back home for breakfast at 1pm which is the biggest meal of the day. I eat with the rest of the Fernandez Family (husband, wife and son) and another Dutch student at the same Spanish school as I. This family has stressed that I should consider this my house and feel at home and I do.
After lunch I go to class at 2pm until 6:30pm and then home for dinner at 7pm. Dinner normally consists of bread and tea again. Most of the family doesnt eat anything. They say that the high altitude here causes slow digestion and that if they eat dinner then they cant sleep, which I am starting to see is true.
