I Arrived!!!!

Santiago Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

A five and half week trip that starts with a week in Santiago Chile, heads briefly to La Paz and across Lake Titicaca to Puno and Cuzco, Peru where I will spend over two weeks. My last week will be around the beginning of August and will cover Lima and some of the southern coastal towns of Peru.

I Arrived!!!!

The cathedral in Plaza de Armas (the main plaza in town).

Well after a nine and a half hour flight I made it to Santiago and to the family I am staying with.  They have a nice apartment and I have my own bathroom and bedroom.  The woman is about 42 and her daughter is away for the winter at dentistry school.  I think she speaks English, but refuses to speak it with me. So I will learn some Spanish or I will starve.

The flight coming in was pretty cool with mountains just peaking above the fog as we arrived in Santiago. The view in the distance is also nice from the city because it is surrounded by mountains, but the city seems pretty boring to look at and there are not many tourists here.  It is Sunday so maybe I will give it a few more days before my final judgement.  Tomorow will be a holiday for some saint, but I will go to the Spanish school for the first time.

Other answers to the normal questions..

it is pretty cold.  I wore a sweatshirt and a fleece when i left to start walking around town this morning, but now by mid-afternoon it is a bit too much.

The bathrooms don´t have seats, but for 35 cents they will give you some toilet paper to use (but not much)

ok...i can´t write any more...need to get back and get some sleep as only got 5 hours on the plane and 5 hours the night before.  I will add pictures later.
