the mustang convertible that we rented
Friday May 18 - Rented a Ford Mustang convertible at LGB.  Drove around in downtown LA (saw the Disney concert hall by Gehry) and Hollywood during the afternoon trying out my new GPS system (Garmin NUVI 350), and had lunch near the Chinese and Kodak theater.  Hung out with Alan's friend Josh in Brentwood who hosted us for the weekend.  Spent the evening at Ezra's (another one of Alan's friends from Penn) chilling out.  It reminded me of being back in college and spending the evening inside and still having a great time.

Saturday May 19 - Took surfing lessons for the first time in Santa Monica with Learn To Surf LA - for about $80 each, we got a 2-hour private lesson and were able to stand-up and catch a wave by the end of the session.  I've always heard that surfing is awesome, and it really was.  If the water is warm, and you don't need wet suits, I could see it being even better than snowboarding.  I can't wait to take this on when I'm in San Diego in July-August.
In the evening, went out to some outdoor place called BenVenuto for drinks (but, didn't have any because I'm trying to stay on a budget)

Sunday May 20 - drove to Vegas
