Weekend in Melbourne/Melbourne Aquarium, May 2009
During our visit to Melbourne we stayed at batmans on collins just opposite Spencer St Station in the city which was pretty cool because it was close to everything and we only had to walk to get around. We checked out some of the shops at the DFO before catching a game of AFL at Edihad stadium, Collingwood and North Melbourne were playing, GO Pies!!! and a good result it was. We had seats on the second level right on the centre of the ground, good view. We then headed to the crown casino after the game where we learned about chips, roulette, blackjack and when to pull out. Wish I knew where those notes went when they put them in the slots on the gaming tables, probably a room that looks like Scrooge McDucks vault with James Packer swimming laps in it all :)
So as you can imagine we got the late check out and a bacon & egg roll, then a stroll along the Yarra where we found the aquarium. Antarctic penguins, fairy penguins, sting rays, sharks, pan sized fish, snapper, salmon (yum) and lots of other great salt water critters. The way the penguins moved through the water was amazing, quick and so effortless and the grey nurse sharks looked so placid swimming with the sting rays and the other fish. It was like they were all good mates just crusin around.
