A day in Siena...

Piazza del Campo
I avoided another quiet Sunday in Bologna by hopping a train to Siena. I had loved the Tuscan countryside on the trip to Firenze, and wanted to see more. The three hour trip to Siena was exactly what I had hoped for. There were cute villages and beautiful rolling hills. For me, the train ride could have been enough of a trip for me!

I must say, the trip was quite amusing, because so many things went wrong. From the start, I missed my layover train in Firenze and had to wait for a while for the next one. I arrived in Siena late in the afternoon, but I was able to find the city center and the Piazza del Campo quickly. The Piazza del Campo is amazing. As soon as you enter it, you feel as though you are very small! The restaurants lining the Piazza were so sweet, and I couldn't help but stop get a glass of wine at one.

I visited the Duomo, and another church for which I cannot remember the name of. There were small art galleries and museums hidden all over the city. I stumbled upon a small art museum at the bottom of the Duomo, and a contempary art gallery in the basement of a church on the Piazza. Unfortunately, the change in time this weekend got the best of my trip, and the sun set early.

Of course, no trip is complete without getting completely lost. I took the wrong bus on the way back to the train station, and had a fun time trying to communicate with the bus driver in my broken Italian. I found my way back to Bologna safe and sound though :)

I would definitely recommend Siena to everyone!
