OberGatlinburg
The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is a giant resort area filled with hotels, ski lodges, outlet centers, and of course Dollywood. That park was on a road trip the September before, so I came back to see what else was here now.
Obergatlinburg is reached by a giant cable car up the side of the hill, and the guide will tell you all about the houses for rent that you see. There is one made out of an airplane, and one called the Barbie Doll house, which goes for $1500 a night.
Obergatlinburg itself has an ice rink, bears, a few rides, then you can take a small chair lift halfway up the mountain to take an alpine slide down, or go all the way up to the top of Mt Harrison, where they take your photo, have a little band playing sell drinks, so I did both. This chailift has about 100 support beams that make tons of noise when you go over them. There was also a ton of bugs, and since you are on a chair 100 feet off the ground, there is no escape. Mt Harrison is 3491 high. If you are interested in scenic vistas, this is the place to go.
