In May of 2008 I was at Fort Jackson for a week, so when the four day weekend came to go back, I was already halfway to the first of several stops. Only the G-rated stops are posted. If you are interested the non-G-rated types of stops, go visit another website. The route turned into a big circle, similar to my April road trip, but this one had significantly more stops.

Lost River Cave

Blue Hole

The cave is really in Bowling Green. You pay a little fee and then there are some nature trails leading to some blue ponds, and then there are hourly boat rides into the caves, which go under the freeway. Be sure to duck as the boat goes into the cave, there is very little clearance. The caverns are pretty big and has quite a history. It was a hideout for Jesse James, used for training by both sides in the Civil War, and a dance floor was placed at the entrance, and is still there today. One odd thing that happened during the tour, a lady had an assistance dog with her. The guide then asked everyone else if anyone had a problem with the dog being there. I'm pretty sure you really don't have a choice so there was no reason for him to ask. The tour takes about an hour. Also posted is a video of a bird taking a bath in one of the little streams outside the cave.
